A History in Direct Marketing
I have loved the direct marketing industry for a long time! In February of 2001, I was hired as the second employee of a list company started by a regional commercial printer and mail house. I wanted to get into the marketing world, and previous internships included working within advertising agencies. Drawn to the marketing world since middle school, I was sure my career would be centered around helping clients connect with customers. This passion and drive didn’t change through high school and then in college it remained my education focus.
The direct marketing industry was admittedly different than what I first envisioned for myself. However, a friend was starting up a new division within a company, and he asked if I’d be interested in joining him. He phrased it in a way that really hooked me: it’s going to be something we can be proud of, and our clients will be proud of it too.
Learning About Direct Marketing
There were some bumps and bruises as I initially learned the industry, but the first two years of my career in the list industry were hugely enlightening. I figured out so many things, and not just about the direct marketing industry.
I also learned what type of professional I wanted to be, and how I envisioned myself being a part of direct marketing. I learned more about myself and my ambition largely because of the amazing people I worked alongside in the direct marking industry. The clients I had the privilege of getting to know through my work also inspired me to do more with direct marketing and continue developing my skills, knowledge and expertise.
Building Relationships Around Direct Marketing
These professional relationships with colleagues and clients shaped and defined my path, and by the time I developed into an entrepreneur, my professional level of knowledge and skill exceeded what I would have dreamed possible. That is said humbly, though, and I attribute my growth and success to these valuable years of learning and support with so many wonderful opportunities along the way.
I developed lifelong relationships with clients and colleagues, and even today I have a genuine care and concern for my clients and for their businesses. I truly enjoy not just the success we bring to our clients, but I care for the individuals who are also running their own businesses or heading up their marketing departments with the fuel of any driven career person. We’re all here because we’re driven by curiosity and the mission to learn more, do more, be more.
And by that, I mean to say: I enjoy the passion and energy my clients bring to the table. Their enthusiasm makes me excited to work for them. I never find it old or repetitive, because every client is different in their drive to succeed. We are all on a mission to master our market because we believe in what we’re doing, and we want to do more of it.
Direct Marketing Means More
What we do with direct marketing isn’t just about facts and figures, sales and conversions–although those are the numbers we love to play with and it’s a huge component of our work. It is about connecting and reaching people, and defining those tiny, imperceptible details that make a difference. We develop direct marketing tools that allow our clients to reach more of the right people.
Colleagues and vendors who took the time to share their knowledge, answer my questions, or collaborate on ideas have been a huge part of my success and are a big part of my motivation to keep going, growing, and developing our company. In the first two years of my budding career, I knew I wanted to strive for a level of authority, trustworthiness, and ability that my clients could trust in wholeheartedly. I want my clients to know I will always work hard to answer their questions, make myself available, and provide high quality products and direct marketing solutions.
My mantra became: It is my job to make you look good.
Database Solutions Launch: April 2011
In April of 2011, I took a giant leap to bring Innovative Database Solutions to life. So many people led me to this point in my life, and I can only try to extend my thanks far and wide to all the family, mentors, previous employers, clients, and friends in the industry. Many of the fond relationships I’ve nurtured in this industry have become life-long friendships, and I’m so grateful for that.
Now, every day is an adventure. I am excited to come to work, and ready for the next count, list order, project, question, or meeting. I’m excited for what is happening, and I am thrilled for what lies ahead. I’m excited to keep making connection and making a difference with our approach to direct marketing.
I’m so grateful for this company and those around me who have fueled our vision, mission, and success. I hope others will see how Innovative Database Solutions is making its mark in the direct marketing industry, and that my experience of twenty years is a huge factor in how we propel the success of our clients.
